Missing stuff.

Sorry I havn't posted in a while, I've been busy taking care of my big sis Lily. When I first came here, she taught me lots of stuff and showed me they way around. A little while ago, she had to go to the vet and have her leg fixed. I have been doing my best to help her feel better.

I miss playing with her. She always whoops my butt. But hey, I admit, I can be a brat sometimes. I'd whoop my butt too, if I were her.

I miss going on walks with her. She is fun, and a bit crazy too. Sometimes she jumps in the lake and then tries to get me to go in too. No way sis, the water is way too deep for my short legs. I'd sink like a stone if I went in.

I miss laying in the morning sun with her. She almost always gets the good spot, mostly cause I eat breakfast too slow and she gets there first. But sometimes she lets me share the good spot with her. I really like when she does that.

I was so happy when she started feeling better and I finally got to lay in the sun with her again. The vet fixed her up all better. Maybe this vet guy isn't too bad after all. I think it may be sometime before we can play again, but I'm just happy to have my big sis back.

Nina or Tess?

On the day of the Plant Fair in Menton I photographed two Yorkies. Nina who is four years old and Tess who is two and a half years old - both live in Menton. And guess what, I can't remember which photo relates to which little girl. As I've probably said before, I need a secretary!

Daisy was taking a turn around the Casino Gardens when I stopped her owners and asked if I could photograph her. In beautiful condition, as you can see - she is 10 years old and lives in Germany.

Sliding Glass Doors - Friend or Foe

Hmmm.....ya, not much thinking needed on this one. DEFINITE FOE!!! I mean seriously......what kind of crazy person thought this one up?!? Saturday we're over at M-Guy's friends' house and I get to play with their female Pit and big male Rottie. It was a pretty sweet set up. There was a big opening in the family room to lead out onto the deck, which then went down to the yard with stairs you barely had to use if you didn't want to. Of course I chose not to. We got to play chase a bunch of times and could bring toys and stuff in and out of the house. I got the other two dogs riled up and into a good wrestling match, and of course being the good dog that I am thought we should take this rough housing outside to appease the humans. I spring free from the other two to have them chase me outside when WHAM!!! This invisible force later described as the "sliding glass door" was put in place so the humans could turn on the "air conditioning". This sliding glass door thing is just wrong. I'm all for running into things, walls included, but there's a technique to it. Full speed, face first because you can't see it coming is not it. The only thing I haven't figure out is who is more insane - the person who invented this messed up object or the people crazy enough to buy them and put them in their houses.

HISTORY

Ganz, a Corporation based in Toronto, Canada, is the manufacturer who introduced the Love Puppy and a host of other Webkinz and Lil’ Kinz stuffed animal toys in 2005. Right now, the United States and Canada are the two BIGGEST marketplaces where Webkinz are sold. There are now over one hundred Webkinz and Lil’ Kinz (smaller version) stuffed animals today, and each year more new designs are released. The new releases usually come around the 4th quarter of the year into the 1st quarter of the new year. Ganz also created a social and educational website called Webkinz World, where kids come to play and learn with their pet.

Today, Webkinz pets and Webkinz World have become the new toy and social media phenomenon of the decade. They are sooo popular that kids... well they simply go completely BANANAS over them, and here’s why…

In 2007, Webkinz became one of the top 5 most searched item which says a lot considering there are 10s of thousands of very well established multi-million dollar companies--not just toys.

Ganz has gone on record by saying they’ve sold more than 2 million of their Webkinz and Lil’ Kinz pets and accessories to retailers, including 1 million registered users on their Webkinz World website. WHAT ARE WEBKINZ?

Do you remember the Beanie Babies and Tamagotchi CRAZE? How about the Cabbage Patch Kids while growing up? Well put them all together and you've got Webkinz. However, the Love Puppy including all the other Webkinz and Lil’ Kinz pets bring another dimension. These lovable stuffed animals are virtual toys that become cartoon-like characters so kids can interact and play with them in Webkinz World. It’s pretty cool! Each pet including the Love Puppy has its own personality, features and does many fun things. And surprisingly, many parents have been getting addicted to these pets along with their kids.


HOW DO WEBKINZ WORK?

When you buy a Love Puppy or any Webkinz pet it comes with a sealed tag that contains an unique secret code. Once the code is accessed, it lets you into Webkinz World. Just go there and click on the “New Member“ button to access the code, and activate your virtual pet. You create an account by entering your user name and password, then identify your pet’s secret code. After that, you answer questions about your pet. You adopt it, select its gender, and give it a name. That's it... you're all done and now its time to play and learn.

GAMEPLAY

In Webkinz World, you play and take care of your pet daily or as often as possible. Don’t worry... even if you neglect your pet for days, weeks or months, it never dies. However, you will see a Happy, Health and Hunger meter that lets you know when your pet is sick. Not only do kids take care of their pet, they can answer trivia questions, play games online, and even earn KinzCash to buy food, furniture, clothes, toys, etc., for their pet. You can also custom design rooms for your pet, play arcade games and compete against other players in tournaments. Kids can answer quizzes in Quizzy’s Question Corner, as well as enter in contests.

You also get 2000 KinzCash with your first adoption of a Webkins pet. You can see other awards for each additional pet by going to Webkinz World and review the “Help” section. (see “What do I get for each adoption… under “Account and Adoption Issues.”) The goal is to keep your pet healthy and play with it, just like a live pet. You earn KinzCash by playing and learning so you can buy food and other things for your pet at the W shop.

In addition, there are stories to read and other fun daily activities. What also keeps kids coming back to Webkinz World are the frequent updates. WHY ARE LOVE PUPPY PRICES SO HIGH?

It was said that Ganz retired the Love Puppy during 2007. Meaning, its no longer in production. But there’s nothing to explain whether this means no longer in production because its seasonal, or no longer in production permanently. In any case, the Love Puppy has been classified as RARE. When a product is in high DEMAND and SUPPLY is low, and labeled RARE, the price tends to increase. And it certainly did for the Love Puppy, as well as some of the other retired Webkinz pets.

When the Love Puppy was first introduced in 2007 it sold for under $20.00. After it was declared RETIRED and RARE, the price skyrocketed to well over $100.00. In some online stores, you will see the price as high as $200.00 or more. Not exactly a good feeling for the parent who's child is desperate for a Love Puppy.

When your child tells you the exact number including the type of Webkinz pets friends at school have, more than likely one of them will be a Love Puppy. And suddenly you're thrown into a Webkinz-Crazed society of kids just like the other parents. You simply don't know what you're getting yourself into when it comes down to the pricing of Love Puppies online. Just pray that your child doesn't ask for the retired Cheeky Dog... not the new Black and White Cheeky Dog! If he/she does ask for one, expect the price to be well over a $1,000.00 and as high as $2,000.00. No kidding!

Understand what our history clearly tells us... the buying behavior of consumers is clearly an emotional one indeed. Advertisements have been targeting different classes of adults for a very long time. Now its the kids turn. They are now being targeted as a large niche of little consumers. But here's the twist, most of them don't have any money... parents do!

There are adults (certain niche of people) that can afford having the best of things in life for themselves and their children. And owning a toy that cost $100s, if not $1000s isn't a BIG deal. That said, it doesn't mean it's wrong to buy, but one must ask how much is too much when considering buying an expensive toy for a young child. Older children, more than likely, will take better care of pricey toys and would probably be more appropriate.

If you have concerns about SUPPLY and DEMAND, don't worry. There seems to be plenty of Love Puppy supplies at eBay, the World‘s Greatest Marketplace where BARGAINS are made. You will find 100s of Love Puppies auctioned everyday on eBay USA and Canada. But more importantly, the number one question for many consumers pertaining to the Love Puppy has been... "Can you buy a Love Puppy for under $100.00?" The answer to that question is... it's NOT likely! At least not online you can't.

The best thing to do if you still want this popular but RARE pet is to shop and compare prices online, unless of course you can find one for under $100.00 in a local retail store somewhere--GOOD LUCK!! One thing you shouldn't do is allow yourself to be drawn in to paying such a ridiculous price such as $199.99 or higher for a Love Puppy. You can however find Love Puppies selling between $110.00 to $125.00, when putting in the time and effort to search for one. It's doubtful that the price will ever go below $100.00 online. You just have to decide and weigh the importance of making your child happy or not. Either its going to be a Love Puppy in the household or a cheaper Webkinz pet. There are many parents today who've traveled up this road. Some have given in and purchased Love Puppies while others complained and kids were left without.

AGE REQUIREMENTS

Webkinz World officials have stated that their website is designed specifically for kids ages 6-13+. However, there are some games available on the site for younger kids which can be enjoyed with the assistance of an adult. So for ages 4 and 5 a parent can help their child learn Webkinz World.

As for the many different Webkinz stuffed animals, generally you will see slight age recommendations. Children under the age of 3 years old, which seem to be the most consistent age mentioned, are not recommended. However, just playing with a Webkinz pet without Webkinz World seems to be a decision left up to the parent.

Ziya

This bright little bundle of beauty is called Ziya and she lives opposite the beautiful restored Chateau in the village of Gorbio. Last year I photographed her with her puppies and if I can find those photos I'll show you another time. Ziya lives with a great lady called Leticia.

Don't you just love Ziya's beautiful dark eyes and that gleaming coat.

Seping

A handsome Shar-pei who lives in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. This 7 year old was out for a run along the promenade with her owner.

Whisky - the Lingerie Dog

Whisky, the West Highland White terrier, belongs to one of the luxury lingerie shops in the Metropole Centre in Monte Carlo. Find a shop called Elle and you'll find Whisky. Whisky is 7 years young.

Beethoven

A lovely old dog - he's 15 - standing outside the boulangerie in Carnoles. A Corgi I was told. He is on holiday from Paris.

Leo

A smart young man - well actually, not so young - 9 years old - but looking quite the opposite. So bright eyed and never blinking. He was standing in front of the casino of Monte Carlo, watching the beautiful people walk by. Leo is a Miniature Pinscher and comes from Clermond-Ferrand.

Morris

Morris, a beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog. His owner was taking a rest on a bench and he was quite happy to pose for a shot. Morris - such a beauty - is 6 years old and lives in Sweden.

Shaka

Meet Shaka - a Shih-tzu crossed with a Yorkie. Cute mix. 9 years old and living in Gorbio, near to Menton. I met this adorable bundle when I walked up to the village to the see the art exhibition there.

Funnily enough Lucky (see the post a few days ago) is also a Shih-tzu X Yorkie but quite a different colour and look.

The Railway Station Dog

This dog sat and waited - and waited - outside Menton's railway station. And in the road too, as you see in the smaller photograph.

I imagine his owner was inside buying a ticket, making an enquiry, perhaps getting a newspaper. But nothing would distract this dog - just waiting, waiting, waiting. I tried to distract him, get him to look at the camera. No way. How faithful our dogs are.

Willy - the Scooter Dog

This is Willy, a Berger Pyrénées (Pyrenean Shepherd Dog). He rides around Menton on a scooter with his owner. Willy is 13 years old - you'd not know it, would you? See Willy on his bike on Menton Daily Photo today.

This small sheepdog of the Mountains of the Pyrénées is considered the oldest of the French herding dogs. They were used in concert with the large white sheep guardian dogs, the Great Pyrénées (Pyrenean Mountain Dog) of the region. The little dog herded the sheep. The big dog watched over them. The natural abilities of this shaggy shepherd are legend - flocks being entrusted to the two different dogs without a human handler. They were officially recognized by the French Kennel Club in 1921.

The breed is also called a Labrit in France. You see many in the south of France.

My Friends

Its been a while since I became a free dog and started making friends. I am kind of a shy guy, but once I know someone, and I decide they can be trusted, I give them a big hug and then we are friends forever. All the people I know get hugs when I see them.

I've made some really great friends so far, but two of my special friends are Rachel and Aaron. They both helped me learn to be a better boy and I'm really happy to know them.

After I had been with my family for a little while I met the nicest person called Rachel. She would come and visit me and Lulu while our people were out during the day. I LOVE Rachel, she is so nice and understanding. She has gone away to a place called London in England, wherever that is, to go to graduate school. My mom says I can't go and visit her there because dogs like me are illegal in England. I gave her a big hug goodbye before she left so she can remember what England is missing out on.

I made another new friend recently, too. His name is Aaron and he is my dad's nephew. I am kind of scared of the people who are called "teenagers". They are often kind of loud and they roam around in packs, so I just don't know about them. I thought Aaron was pretty scary when I first met him, since he is a teenager. Lulu said he was very nice, though, so I watched him closely for a few days and kept my distance. After a while I realized that he was a lot like me and we made friends. We gave each other a big hug to celebrate.

I can't wait to make more friends like Rachel and Aaron!

Lucky

This is Lucky. He's a Yorkie/Shih-tzu mix. Unusual coloured dog, I think - a beautiful grey. Lucky lives in Gorbio and is 8 years old. Cute 'mix' eh?

Jicky

Meet Jicky, a 14 year old Wire-Fox Terrier. In the smaller photograph (click to enlarge) you see the granddaughter of Jicky's owner. Lois loves Grandma's dog. She lives in Orleans, the daugher of a Scottish father and a French mother so she will grow up to be bi-lingual - not struggle like the rest of us. Grandma, granddaughter and Jicky were in Gorbio for the Blessing of the Animals.

Sissy

Sissy is a gorgeous 4 year old Irish Setter who lives near to Milan. On holiday in Menton, she was brought along to the recent Blessing of the Animals in Gorbio.

Canaille

Just a pup. 10 months old and adorable. Canaille lives on the Route de Gorbio in Menton. Seen here in Gorbio village, she was brought up for the Blessing of the Animals.

Canaille has several meanings but here it means 'rogue' or 'little devil' - in other words a term of endearment.
