Emmie at the Corso

Two year old Emmie was having a lovely time at the Fete du Citron parade on Sunday. Lovely alert Yorkie and proud owner.

They come from a village in Normandy called Sainte Mere Eglise. The village was made famous by the paratrooper John Steel and by the film "The Longest Day". John Steel managed to land on the church and his chute caught on the steeple. He hung there for two hours while the fighting continued on the ground before being cut down by the Germans, taken prisoner and later released by the Americans.

Loona and the Late Photo...

Sometimes I take a photograph of a dog and the photo isn't good enough, so I don't use it and occasionally - mea culpa - I forget. So last Saturday, when I took the photo of the three guys below - the one on the right asked why I hadn't put the photo of his Yorkie pup on the blog and then I remembered. It is one of the last pics I took before I got my new camera and somehow, with all the learning processes, I forgot.

So here - rather late - is little Loona, who was only four months old at the time. Adorable eh? How could I have forgotten!

The Bicycle Dog

Some dogs have it all worked out, don't they? This Yorkie looks perfectly capable of walking alongside his owner but prefers to sit in the basket of her bike. Clever dog!

Molly

Molly lives with the last little dog we saw - Cashew. She's 12 years old and they live in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin.

Cashew, the Oldie

Cashew is an old man. He's 14½ and lives with his sprightly friend, Molly, who is only 12 - we'll meet her in the next posting.

These two much-loved dogs live in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin and I met them out walking in Gorbio village. Well, Molly was walking and Cashew's was in his owner's arms - absolutely the way to go for a walk when you are a little tired...

Zappy visits the Monaco Yacht Show

Zappy, an adorable little Yorkie - only one year old - lives in Monaco, so naturally he visited the Monaco Yacht Show and looks quite the part on the blue carpet. For photos of the yacht show please click on Monte Carlo Daily Photo to see the first day of a series on this fabulous event.

Wait!

What a well-trained little dog. In the smaller photo he approaches the crossing and then he waits for the lights to change.

No High Heels

This yacht was in Menton for the recent Festival of Offshore Racing boats.

See the sign? Do you think this little Yorkie is wishing she'd been allowed to bring her high heels on board?

Choupette

Choupette lives in Menton. She was sitting on a bench by the sea, blending rather nicely with the colour of the wood. This little bundle is 5 years old and looks as if she's recently been to the coiffeur, don't you think?

Monaco Dog Show - the Yorkies

Almost ready to be shown - he just needs those rubber bands removed from his whiskers. Yorkshire Terriers exhibitors always seem to have lots of dogs with them - I suppose it's not so difficult as they are small. So in the small photo we see 'three little ones all in a row' and in the last photo - well this one has given up and gone to sleep!

Zora in a Basket

This little sweetheart was impossible to walk past. She's called Zora and is a year old and was sitting outside Le Balico restaurant in Menton. She and her family were on holiday from the Yonne area of France.

Don't you love her smart basket? And don't you love her ears - back, out and up! Such an expressive little dog.

Cali at the Coiffeur

Oh - the indignity of it all! A strap under my nether regions...

This is little Cali, she's two years old and lives in Menton and is, as you see, getting a cut and blow dry at the Salon de Toilettage near to the market.

Shelby

It's getting towards dusk in Monaco and I notice this lady putting her little dog into a carrying bag.

Meet Shelby, a tiny Yorkie, and 15 months of age. She lives in Antibes. Her owner told me Shelby is her fifth Yorkie, or did she say her seventh. I forget. So often when we love a particular breed, there is no other for us. Don't you love Shelby's matching bow and blanket.

Note - in the background of the smaller photo you can see Monte Carlo's famous casino.

Close Encounters of the Two-Feet Kind

Guest photographer today! John Carroll follows Riviera Dogs and kindly sent me this photograph taken in Peyriac de Mer - not technically the Riviera but in France and on the Mediterranean so we'll cheat and call this little Yorkie a Riviera Dog. Peyriac de Mer is in the Languedoc-Roussillon.

The Yorkie is in love! Perhaps someone should tell him the object of his desire is a battery operated toy.

Tequila, the Guitarist's dog

This is Tequila who sleeps on the guitar case. She lives in a van with her owner, Virginie. You see Virginie often in Menton playing her guitar and tapping those feet with bells on.

Tequila has recently been sterilized as Virginie has another dog, a Jack Russell - and guess what, Tequila had five pups. Virginie doesn't want to castrate the Jack Russell as he guards her and her van.

Fifi and Cilla

These two little dogs didn't want to keep still for a photograph. Often it's better to leave dogs alone, let them settle, be patient. The owners were an enthusiastic Italian couple from Cuneo and perhaps overwhelmed the dogs somewhat. They were walking along the beachfront just where Menton joins Roquebrune-Cap-Martin.

Fifi is ohe right, she is just over one year. On the left is Cilla who is 4 years old.

The Dog in the Doorway

Another Yorkie today but older than the last adorable puppy. This little one is always to be found sitting in the doorway of this Menton restaurant or just outside by the menu board. His owner is the lady at the rear of the smaller photograph - I presume the restaurant owner.

I don't know his name - the ladies were in conversation and I didn't like to interrupt them.

Yorkies are very popular in France. I used to think I'd find loads of poodles and of course there are poodles, but many more Yorkshire Terriers. Known in France as 'un york.'

Feiwel - a dog's life

This little Yorkie pup - he's 4 months old - was being wheeled along the seafront in Menton but what amused me is that the child, whose pushchair it was, was walking! Quite right - dogs first!

He's such a pretty Yorkie, don't you think? He and his charming family were on holiday in Menton from Luxembourg. Pity about the weather.
