What is it about dachshunds? They are just so entrancing... even if their leads do get wound around your leg.

Village Dogs

Village dogs have a good life. They can wander anywhere they like, off lead. These two wire-haired dachshunds (teckels in French) live in the medieval village of Castellar, which is in the hills above Menton.

One them, as if to emphasise how cute she is, rolled on her back when I tried taking her photogaph. Yes, I know...submissive behaviour really.

Dachshunds Rule - of course!

These two charmers have long names. The wire-haired is called Donnawetter and she is 2. And the smooth-haired is called Alpenliebe and she is 7. They live in Milan but were in Menton where I met them at a three-day festival held in the Old Port, promoting careers relating to the sea.

Frimousse and the Interloper

So there I was photographing this adorable Cavalier King Charles puppy, when up strode the smooth-haired dachshund wanting to know what was going on!

I never did get to ask the name of the dachshund but can tell you that the puppy is called Frimousse and she is a Ruby coloured Cavalier aged 5 months. She was on holiday near to Menton, staying in Tende in the mountains and comes from the north of France.

Brandy and 'The Virgin Mother'

Don't you love it when a dachshund looks slightly sideways and shows the white of the eye? (apologies for chopping his toes off!)

Uxane

This is Uxane, who I met walking on the promenade above the port in Menton. She was here with her owners, who spend part of the year in Menton and part in Pau.

Jarvis

Well, you'd give a strange look if someone took your photo whilst you were taking a pee...

Jarvis is a wire-haired dachshund from South Africa, staying on the French Riviera, prior to coming to the UK with his sister, Tallulah.

Cheyenne ...and Oudai ...and Oscar

You don't expect to bump into a Chesapeake Bay Retriever in Monaco. I confess I didn't know what breed she was until I asked. Isn't she gorgeous. Click on the link to read more about this lovely breed.

Her name is Cheyenne and she's two and a half. The pointer, with the beautiful eyes, is called Oudai and she is 10 years old and the wire-haired dachshund is also 10 years old and he's called Oscar.

They live on le rocher (the rock) in Monaco. That is the area where you find the Palace, the Oceanographic museum and the Cathedral and also some beautiful little back streets where people actually live, including these three lovely dogs.

It was the day of the XVIIIth Century Festival (currently on Monte Carlo Daily Photo) so the place was packed with visitors and it wasn't so easy to get them to pose with people pushing past all the time. Look how they obviously adore their owner. Lucky dogs, lucky owner.

Titta

This is little Titta, a 5 month old dachshund puppy, with her young owner. If you are a follower of Monte Carlo Daily Photo, you'll know I put this same photo on about a week ago. So apologies if you've already seen it.

Titta was present at an Art Gallery 'Opening' in Monaco but in fact lives in Genoa, Italy.

Oscar

Oscar was sitting on a bench by the sea in Menton, his owners alongside. He's 14 years old and does really well for an old man. A lovely wire-haired dachshund who lives - forgot to write it down - but I think in Germany.

Don't you love the smaller photo - eyes squeezed tight - either against the sun or the photographer!

Thandie

Meet little Thandie who is a miniature wire-haired dachshund and too cute for words. Isn't she adorable? She's only a year and a bit and lives with a standard smooth haired dachsy called Coco, who we met in Menton last June. Click on the link to see her.

Both live with their South African owners in Monte Carlo - Thandie is a South African name. Here she poses at Pension Milou. See her tail wagging in the smaller photo.

Shiny wet nose

Hot on the heels of a long-haired dachshund (see last post) we now have a wire-haired. I know nothing about him tho. His owner was busy shopping at the Menton Christmas Fair but he seemed happy to smile at the camera with his beautiful wet nose, shining in the sunshine.

Tatu

You can see this dog is old by his lovely white face, yet look how bright his eyes are and how his coat gleams. He's a very young 13 year old.

Tatu lives in Perinaldo, a village just across the border in Italy but I met him in Menton at the Christmas market.

Basile

Photography is all about getting the light right - or rather hoping it's right when you take a photograph. I was walking up from the port of Monaco today - towards Casino Square - when I saw this little dog. I asked the owners if I could photograph her and wham, the light was right and I knew I only needed one shot.

Basile is a wire-haired dachshund on holiday in Monte Carlo from Belgium. She's 8 years old and isn't she gorgeous!

Didi

A chair for the owner and a chair for the lady dog too. Meet Didi, the 3 year old dachshund. Didi and her charming owner live at Lake Garda in Italy.

Coco - Dachshunds' rule!

Photographed in Menton, Coco lives in Monte Carlo. She knows she's beautiful, doesn't she?
