Baboo

This is Baboo - a male labrador, who lives in Gorbio village and had been down to the main square for the recent Blessing of the Animals. He's two and a half.

Walls.......hmmmmm........

Okay, so for the most part they are good things. I can usually bounce off them to help me get to where I want to go. The best thing about walls is that it's so much easier to just let them stop you, instead of having to expend all that energy to stop yourself. When you run at them, they don't move and stop you dead in your tracks. It's awesome! Much more stable of a stopping device than M-Guy's legs.

The one downside is that I think they are built similar to the stairs in some way. Much like how the stairs move out from underneath me right as I put my feet down, the end of the walls called "corners" are not so stationary. It seems to happen most when I turn around, but the corners randomly shoot out and extend themselves to make openings smaller than the first time I passed by. Not a huge deal until you turn around right as they shoot out into your face. Man does that sting. So my lesson for today when it comes to walls - Aim for the center!

Venus

Venus, the German Shepherd Dog, lives on a boat in the port of Garavan in Menton. Actually, not on this boat - but on one a little further along. On the day I took the photo, she and her owner were visiting a friend on another boat, hence her being on the wrong boat. She seems quite at home tho, doesn't she? Venus is 4 years old.

Nice-Matin's article

Bienvenue!

-----------------------

Nice-Matin today shows a photograph of Yours truly and my dog Beau - that's him in the foreground and little Rolf, who is staying here, near my feet. The interview was about local bloggers and in particular my Menton Daily Photo blog but, this blog was mentioned instead. Please click on the link above to enjoy photos of Menton and the nearby villages.

There is also a Monte Carlo Daily Photo blog if you live in Monaco and Riviera Dogs.

And for regular readers of Postcards from Pension Milou - apologies - you can see the photo blogs have been taking me away from my writing. I'll get back to it soon, I promise!

Article in Nice-Matin - click on the link.

Myrtille

The Papillon - or Butterfly Dog - so named because of the enormous ears with their fringes. If the ears are 'down' then they are known as Phaelene - or Moth Dogs.

Meet Myrtille - very much a Papillon - who lives in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. She's 9 years old and looking very well for her age, don't you think?

Vanille

Vanille is a pocket-sized Yorkshire terrier as you can see and what a pretty one. She's 4 years old, lives in Menton and her owner runs with Les Foulées Roquebrunoise - a running group you perhaps read about on Menton Daily Photo - remember Woolite, the sheep who swims in the sea and who is their mascot?

Teo

Teo is a Jacdterrier, a breed that originated in Germany. Click on the link to read more. He lives in Menton but in this photograph is in the square of Gorbio village, where he'd come with his owner - plus horses - for the Blessing on the Animals. You can see Teo with his horse friends by clicking on the second link.

Jimmy

Jimmy is a nearly 14 year old Parson Jack Russell terrier belonging to a super lady called Jilly - well she has to be super - same name as me! Jilly lives in Roquebrune-cap-Martin and she runs with a running group called Les Foulées Roquebrunois.

Remember the sheep on Menton Daily Photo - Woolite, the sheep, is the running club's mascot.

Fun in the Sun

This Jack Russell terrier was having the BEST time on the beach at Roquebrune-cap-Martin yesterday. Here he has just swum back to shore after retrieving the ball his master threw for him. You'll see another photo of this cute dog on Menton Daily Photo today - saying Bonjour to a sheep, who also swam in the sea.

crap scary dog

Voldemort dog

crap dog eugenics

It's not just my artistic interpretations; pedigree dogs are crap on technical merit. They fall outside the medals. They are fail dogs.

Luna

Luna is a cross between a Dachshund and a Bassett Hound. See her tail wag - it's out of focus! She's nine years old and she is owned by Philippe's son. Who is Philippe you may say - well he is the owner of Woolite the sheep you see in the small photo. To read more about Woolite, who was filmed in Roquebrune today for 30 Million d'Amis, a French television programme about animals, please click on the link for Menton Daily Photo.

Me Too, Me Too!!!!

I couldn't let you guys out in Cali have all the fun, so I made sure M-Guy knew I was ready for that Good Canine Something-Or-Other test by helping M-Gal around the house while he was in Colorado with Wallace and Ajax. I made sure that she knew where one of her socks was by going and snatching it out of the laundry basket. Then I made sure her sandals looked extra clean with a Hector Special Spit Shine. The rug going into the laundry room really needed a beating to get the dust out of there as well. Then I cleaned one of the windows, but that was a little tricky because I had to get up on the desk to reach it. M-Gal kept stopping me from doing all these things like I wouldn't do a good enough job. She had dumped brand new toys all over the place that she wanted me to play with, but I didn't want to play. I had to prove I could be a Good Doggie Citizen thing like all my buddies back in Cali. I was able to do one thing before she stopped me though. The big plant in the corner really needed watering, so I was able to get it free from its pot and bring it to her to make sure she was aware of the necessary attention that the plant needed. After that I got dinner in my crate for a hard day of house chores, and she called M-Guy to tell him all the things I did to help her around the house. M-Guy must have been pretty impressed, because he got back from Colorado and finally took me to take that test. He said I was a very good boy, and that I passed!! Well duh, I'm sure once they heard about all the stuff I did around the house to help M-Gal out, the rest were just details. I got a big rawhide when I got home. It was good. Hey M-Guy.......you haven't unpacked your suitcase from Colorado yet. Let me help you with that...........

Aston

Aston (think racing cars) is a beautiful big Briard. The first Briard we've had on this blog. A Briard is a French Shepherd Dog, so really it's surprising we've not had one before. Did you know Napoleon owned one?

Aston was standing outside the fish stall in Carnoles market and lives in Menton. What a beautiful boy!

Basile

Photography is all about getting the light right - or rather hoping it's right when you take a photograph. I was walking up from the port of Monaco today - towards Casino Square - when I saw this little dog. I asked the owners if I could photograph her and wham, the light was right and I knew I only needed one shot.

Basile is a wire-haired dachshund on holiday in Monte Carlo from Belgium. She's 8 years old and isn't she gorgeous!

The Obama Dog

There's a little bit of a cheat here because this dog isn't a Riviera Dog - but he could well be. Blue, a nine-month old Old English Sheepdog puppy, lives with his owner, my best buddy Candy, in Ohio. Candy visits Menton often - so let's imagine she's put Blue on the plane with her!

I just couldn't resist showing you Blue's new collar - photo taken by Candy, of course, and no prizes for guessing her politics. This gorgeous collar (click to enlarge smaller photograph) was designed by Candy's oh-so-talented, artist friend, Laura R. Joseph. You can see more of Laura's beautiful work by clicking on her website.

Belle, the gentle old lady

Belle is a cross between a Pyrenean Shepherd Dog and an English Setter. She certainly has the English Setter colours. In all three photos I took of her, she screws up her eyes, puts her head back and woofs. Yes, she's somewhat overweight but she's an old lady after all - 12 years old. Neverthelss, Belle lives in Menton in the Old Town so she must still be in pretty good form to walk up the steep hill each time she's going home from a walk.

Maximus

Maximus - big name for a little dog! We met in the pedestrian area of Menton. He's a smooth-coat chihuahua, 2 years old and comes from Vicenza in Italy.

Many of the dogs I've been showing lately come from Italy. Menton is on the Italian border.

You'll find a dog in the sand on Menton Daily Photo today.

I'm Brave Now

Yesterday started out like any normal Saturday. We went to school like always, but this time there was a different teacher called the evaluator and there were way more people than usual. I did all the good stuff I usually do in class, only this time I didn't get any treats and the nice evaluator paid attention only to me. After we finished, she wrote stuff down on a piece of paper and then she said "Congratulations!" My mom was SO happy, she gave me a whole bunch of treats and she let me bounce around, which I'm not supposed to do at school. Then all the nice people clapped and came over to give me and my mom hugs. They said that now I was Canine Good Citizen! When I was first living with my family I learned that Lulu was a Canine Good Citizen and I decided I would study hard so I could be smart and brave just like Lulu. It is very exciting to know that school is what makes me smart! I love school.

Everyone was so proud of me and when we got home I got a yummy turkey neck with my dinner. Even the nice man called Landlord came over to tell me I was a good boy. It was like a party for me all day. Then my mom looked at the computer and told me that Jonny was a Canine Good Citizen now, too!

Today I got to do all my favorite things. We went on a nice walk to my favorite park and looked at the gopher holes. I didn't find any gophers this time, but it was fun anyway.

Then we spent the afternoon in the back yard. I made a new hole underneath a tree and took a nap. I think I might get a special treat with my dinner again tonight, too!

It was a great weekend and I can't wait to get my new Canine Good Citizen tag to wear on my collar, just like Lulu does. Then everyone will know that I am a smart and brave boy.

hugs, Uba

crap cushion

This crap dog evidently spotted my spy's camera and rolled over to beg for a photograph of its golden fluff.

crap chow chow

Reputedly one of the stupidest dogs in existence, the chow chow was one of the first primitive breeds to evolve from the wolf. So it is now far, far away from the wolf.

chihuahua crapness discussed

This chihuahua confronts the viewer with a full-face stare, claws drawn. It strives to transcend its unfortunate genetic inheritance. Its rounded features call to mind the noble bovine.
Unlike the child's toy it is doomed to become, pathetic in the sense of risible,
the puppy is not crap. Rather, it is pathetic in the sense of pitiable.

crap cloned dogs

Dogs have been cloned before, in order to fight crime with the police and save lives through the advancement of medical science. Booger was cloned because he was so good at 'fetching clothes from the dryer and drinks from the fridge, opening doors and taking off her shoes'.

Smigle

Smigle, as you see, has long worked out how to look cute. Head on one side - 'hey, look at me!' I met two year old Smigle and his own owners in the pedestrian area of Menton. They live in Modena - famous for Ferrari and also where they make the Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.

Smigle is an interesting mix - perhaps a bit of Miniature Pinscher? Some Papillon perhaps?

The Wet Dogs

The little Jack Russell so wants to play with the big dog but, no chance, he's on a lead. Two wet dogs having a day on the beach in Menton.

I Dig Dirt!

Last week my people commented that I don't dig in the yard.  They seemed happy about that. Lulu had started a nice hole, but I never saw what was so fun about digging.  Well, the other day I was hanging out in the yard and I thought I might give digging a try.  I went into the garden shed and got out the little trowel that the people use when they dig in the dirt, and I took it over to Lulu's hole.  Then I started digging...

There's the handle of the trowel in front of me in the picture above.  I couldn't figure out how it worked, so I just dug with my paws.

Wow, digging is fun!  I think I did a really good job with Lulu's hole.

After a while my people came outside and said I had to stop because I was throwing dirt into the neighbor's yard.  Bummer!

I think I am going to do this digging thing more often.
hugs,
Uba
